The Best Album category also includes projects by Arctic Monkeys, Little Simz, SAULT and Obongjayar
The nominees for The Ivors 2023 have been unveiled – with Fontaines D.C. included alongside some of the biggest names in international music, with a nomination in the Best Album category for Skinty Fia.
The Ivor Novello Awards have been presented to UK and Irish songwriters and screen composers since 1956. This year's ceremony is set to take place on May 18 at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, with Amazon Music broadcasting live performances and interviews.
Released in April 2022, Fontaines D.C.'s lauded third LP was previously named Hot Press' Album of the Year, and scored a nomination at the Choice Music Prize. The success also led to the Irish band being crowned Best International Group at the BRIT Awards earlier this year, as well as Irish Artist of the Year at the Choice Music Prize.
"...A compound forms in Fontaines’ music – like a shadow guitarist manifesting in their sound: an ethereal being, evoking the Irish elk, that symbol of lost Ireland which looms over Skinty Fia," Will Russell wrote in his review of the album for Hot Press.
"Joyce reckoned that the shortest way to Tara, the ancient centre of Celtic civilisation, is through Holyhead," he continued. "Fontaines D.C. seem to grasp that riddle, and as Joycean scholar Declan Kiberd ruminated, remain sincere not to a single self, but authentic to several. They are dignified amidst the grotesque. Mighty stuff."

In The Ivors' Best Album category, Skinty Fia is up against Arctic Monkeys' The Car, Little Simz's NO THANK YOU, SAULT'S 11, and Obongjayar's Some Nights I Dream Of Doors.
This year, Sting is also set to receive Fellowship of the Ivors Academy.
Other nominees include recent Hot Press interviewees Venbee (Rising Star Award) and Katie Gregson-MacLeod (Best Song Musically and Lyrically for 'Complex'). Irish series Bad Sisters also scored a nomination for PJ Harvey and Tim Phillips' soundtrack.
