The Irish band have clocked up the biggest week of albums chart sales of the year so far.
Recent Hot Press cover stars Fontaines D.C. have debuted at the top of the Official Irish Albums Chart with their new album, Skinty Fia – scoring their first ever No.1 album in Ireland in the process.
The Irish band have clocked up the biggest week of albums chart sales of the year so far – with physical copies accounting for 82% of their total chart sales, according to OfficialCharts.com.
Their 2019 debut album, Dogrel, peaked at No.4, while 2020's A Hero's Death reached No.2.
In 2020, A Hero's Death was in a fierce head-to-head race on the Official Irish Albums Chart with The Coronas' True Love Waits – with The Coronas ultimately taking the top spot.
"A large part of what Skinty Fia is about is the way Irishness becomes exaggerated and embellished when we’re abroad," Fontaines D.C.'s Grian Chatten recently told Hot Press. "And how whether it’s in parts of London, Boston or Vancouver, we still cling together for various reasons including the discomfort of being ‘othered’, which I’ve been feeling. It’s fertile soil for creativity.”
Fontaines D.C. are followed on the chart by Ed Sheeran – who occupies both the No.2 and No.3 slots with = and ÷ respectively – in the midst of his Irish tour.
