The Grammy Award-nominated post-punk band will return as alumni on Friday, 22nd January, with broadcaster Kate Brennan Harding hosting the virtual outing. Another event will take place on Thursday, January 28th featuring BBC Radio 1's Gemma Bradley, among others.
BIMM Institute Dublin, home to some of Ireland’s most talented developing new artists and music business entrepreneurs, has announced two free virtual events this month offering a deeper insight into potential careers within the music industry.
The college, situated in the heart of Dublin’s Liberties, has become a hub of artistry and creativity, providing a springboard into the world of contemporary music.
The events will feature BIMM alumni and Grammy Award-nominated post-punk band Fontaines D.C. and BBC Radio 1's Gemma Bradley.
Fontaines D.C. are set to appear on Friday, January 22nd, 2021 at 5pm. The Dublin band have been at the heart of Ireland’s flourishing music scene, and will be discussing their music education journey, the vital knowledge they gained there and the doors it has opened for them in their careers to date.
Gemma Bradley, Warner Music's Saoirse Kavanagh, Ultra Publishing & Ultra Music's Peter Walsh, music therapist Lyndsey Connolly, Joe Furlong (James Vincent McMorrow), Niamh White (PIAS) and Catherine Smyth (Official Charts) will appear on Thursday, January 28th at 5pm in a separate event.

The two free-to-attend virtual events will be open to those considering studying music or the music industry as a career and will feature talks from highly experienced lecturers and music industry professionals. They will offer an insight into the many different careers which can be pursued within the music industry by attaining the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music degree at BIMM.

Some of the leading figures who have visited BIMM Dublin to impart their knowledge to the new crop of talented musicians include; The Edge (U2), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Hozier, John Grant, Danny O’Donoghue (The Script), Imelda May, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy), Lianne La Havas, Snarky Puppy, Alan McGee (Creation Records), Michael Eavis (Glastonbury) and a number of world renowned session musicians including Thomas Lang, John Scofield, Stu Hamm and producers Steve Albini and Ethan Johns.
Some of the successful BIMM graduates include Fontaines D.C., Murder Capital, Erica Cody, Jafaris and Craig Fitzgerald of The Academic. Other graduates have set up businesses in the creative arts, or have focused on working for concert promoters, record labels and music publishers.
In 2020, BIMM Institute Dublin announced a selection of brand-new programmes to their already varied roster of courses; The BA(Hons) Music Business, the first degree of its kind in Ireland, and MA in Popular Music Practice.
The deadline for application to the BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music degree programme is February 1st through the CAO system for September 2021 enrolments.
