The Dublin band's new album debuts at No.2 on the Official Albums Chart in the UK.
After leading the way at No.1 on the UK's midweek albums chart, Fontaines D.C. have been narrowly beaten to the top spot by Taylor Swift – whose Folklore was boosted by an earlier than expected release on CD.
As well as achieving the No.2 slot on the albums chart, Fontaines D.C.'s A Hero's Death lands at the top of the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Record Store Albums Chart – with over 60% of the album's vinyl sales purchased from independent record shops in the UK.
"It is an album that recklessly tears down the sheltering sky," Will Russell wrote in his review of A Hero's Death for Hot Press. "It hacks the televised minds of a soul-sucked citizenry fed on a vomit of advertising platitudes. Reminiscent of The Clash, Fontaines D.C. have planted a defiant flag around which to rally."
The Dublin band, who currently grace our double-cover special issue of Hot Press, also debuted at No.2 on the Official Irish Albums Chart, behind our other cover stars, The Coronas, with True Love Waits.
