IDLES, Yungblud and Fontaines D.C. were among the most popular choices in independent record shops in the UK last year.
The Official Record Store Chart 2020 has been revealed – with IDLES' Ultra Mono, Yungblud's Weird and Fontaines D.C.'s A Hero's Death ranking as the Top 3 best-selling albums in independent record shops in the UK last year.
The Top 10 also features albums by Bombay Bicycle Club, Courteeners, Doves, Blossoms, Sports Team and David Bowie – while Fontaines D.C. feature in the Top 40 twice, with both A Hero's Death (No. 3) and 2019's Dogrel (No. 34).
A Hero's Death, released in July, hit No.2 on the Official Albums Chart in the UK, just behind Taylor Swift's folklore.
Last night, Fontaines D.C. continued their path to international stardom, with a performance of the title track from A Hero’s Death on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – which you can watch here. The Dublin band's appearance on the popular US talk show arrives on the heels of their Best Rock Album nomination at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and follows recent UK TV performances on Later… with Jools Holland and Soccer AM.
IDLES' Ultra Mono was the best-selling album in the UK's independent record shops in 2020, as well as the UK's fastest-selling vinyl release of the year.

"We’re Number 1 on the Official Record Store Chart 2020, which means that lots of people that did go out and buy the album did so supporting their local record store which is something that’s really important at the minute," IDLES’ Mark Bowen told Official Charts. "If you’re going to buy a record, support independent local businesses, they need it as much as possible. Thanks to the fans, shout out to independent record stores. We’re top of the pops, Number 1 in the shops, a wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom!”
The Official Record Store Chart was launched in 2012 – polling over 100 of the UK’s top independent record shops, counting sales of CDs, vinyl and other formats.
