Marking the beginning of a return to live events in the UK, the BRIT Awards took place last night as part of the government's Events Research Programme – with 2,500 of the 4,000 tickets gifted to key workers, and no social distancing or masks among the live audience.

Hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall, the night featured performances from Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Arlo Parks, Griff, The Weeknd, Headie One with AJ Tracey and Young T & Bugsey, and Elton John with Years & Years.

Although there was disappointment in Ireland as Fontaines D.C. missed out on the award for International Group, it was a historic evening in many respects – as Little Mix became the first female act to win British Group, and Taylor Swift became the first female artist to be presented with the BRITs Global Icon award.

Dua Lipa, meanwhile, took home the awards for both Female Solo Artist and Album of The Year for Future Nostalgia.
