With no Oxegen this year, expect lots of southerners to travel up to Belfast for these extremely tasty looking Tennent’s Vital gigs.
Taking place in Boucher Park, the live action pans out as follows:
Tuesday August 21 – Foo Fighters, The Black Keys,
Wednesday August 22 – The Stone Roses, Florence + The Machine.
If you’ve forgotten what a class live act the Foos are, let us direct you to [link]www.reading.foofighters.com[/link] where you’ll find a virtual cassette recording of their 1995 Reading headliner.
Dave Grohl has also found time to make Sound City, a documentary about the titular Los Angeles studio where Nirvana recorded Nevermind. It’s also where Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Slipknot’s Iowa and Rage Against The Machine’s eponymous album were given birth to.
“That funky old place had the best drum room in the world,” Grohl reflects. “The drum sound at the beginning of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’? That’s Sound City.”
Those contributing to the documentary include Butch Vig, Trent Reznor, Corey Taylor and Josh Homme.

There’s also a film being made about early ‘90s Manchester with The Stone Roses’ legendary – not entirely for the right reasons! – Spike Island gig providing the backdrop. Due to premiere early next year, it’s a collaboration between Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll director Mat Whitecross and actor Chris Coghill who played Bez in 24 Hour Party People.
Tennent’s Vital tickets go on sale on Wednesday March 28, at 9am.
