Edwin McFee previews five of the tastiest DJ sets at Forbidden Fruit.
IDRIS ELBA
Saturday
Celebrated for his performances in The Wire and Thor, Elba is also a mega-talented DJ. In addition to Ibiza residencies and regular appearances at the likes of Snowbombing, Ibiza Rocks and Glastonbury, the gifted renaissance man now journeys to Ireland for what’s sure to be a tasty Forbidden Fruit set. Expect the party to go supernova if he drops his incendiary remix of Skepta’s crossover hit ‘Shutdown’.

MIKE D
Saturday
In recent years, ex-Beastie Boy Mike D has dived into many passion projects. These have included his trap-inspired epic ‘Humberto Vs The New Reactionaries (Christine And The Queens Remix)’, commissioned for trendy fashion line Kenzo’s 2014 summer show. Elsewhere, he served as producer on Slaves’ ferocious second LP, Take Control. At Forbidden Fruit, he performs a much-anticipated DJ set, which should do a bang-up job of reflecting his thrillingly eclectic tastes.

DENIS SULTA
Sunday
Glasgow has always had a rich dance music heritage. From Slam, Optimo and Harri & Domenic, to Jackmaster, Jasper James and Bake, the city hasn’t been short of talent over the decades. Denis Sulta is the latest sensation to emerge from that ever fertile hotbed, and this now Berlin-based groove technician has become a real favourite with house fans. ‘It’s Only Real’ introduced the artist born Hector Barbour to the dance scene in considerable style in 2015, and his stock should only increase further with his Forbidden Fruit appearance.

OR:LA
Sunday
Alternating between her home town of Derry and her adopted city of Liverpool, Or:la is one of the most talented up-and-coming DJs around. With a hypnotic and chilling industrial sound, her two EPs to date have boasted some truly exquisite grooves. With influences ranging from Moodymann and DJ Stingray to Led Zepplin, Or:la – who has her own nomadic club night, Meine Nacht – should win plenty over new converts at Forbidden Fruit.
