Known for his work as a part of Jump the Gun, Ireland's 1998 Eurovision contestant, it's been announced that Roy Taylor has died fighting motor neurone disease
It's been recently announced that the former Irish Eurovision contestant and Jump the Gun band member Roy Taylor has passed away after battling a motor neurone disease.
Jump the Gun was an Irish rock band for which Roy Taylor was the lead vocalist and bassist. They broke out into the spotlight when they competed for Ireland in 1988's Eurovision song contest, placing eighth.
As for motor neurone disease, commonly abbreviated to MND, it is a rare condition that progressively weakens and damages parts of the nervous system. The type Roy Taylor had is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which sees a degeneration of motor nerves in both the spinal cord and brain, inhibiting functions like moving, speaking, and breathing.
It most commonly affects people between ages of 40 to 70.
Taylor passed on fighting. Diagnosed in 2018, he's been using his platform to advocate for awareness about the disease. He even started Watch Your Back MND, a charity dedicated to supporting research and care for those afflicted.

Defiantly, his Twitter bio read that "everyday I take on ALS MND, and one day I'll win."
The news of Taylor's passing came through the charity's Facebook page, passing along a message from his children. It comes a month after Watch Your Back MND advertised a charity concert, A Night for Roy Taylor, to help support Roy and his family after they've spent the past five years raising funds while courageously fighting Roy's own affliction.
The Go Fund Me page used to fundraise for the event has been left open to allow for more donations should anyone wish to continue to contribute.
"It is with deep sadness we wish to announce the passing of our dad and hero Roy Taylor," the post began.
"Through his infectious positivity over the last number of years he achieved so much in the fight against MND. His work has helped the world get closer to be free of MND. And for that we are bursting with pride. An amazing dad and amazing person and an amazing musician. TO everyone who supported us, you all know who you are."
"We love you all and he loved you all," they conclude.
