Glen Hansard tackling The Boss, star-of-the-moment Lorde mashed up with Fall Out Boy and a virtual waterfall of full album streams to make your weekend musical...
Man flu, schmanflu! Despite being more poorly than any human being has ever been before – hear that cough? Feels like sandpaper it does – Free Music Friday has put together another bounteous collection of tunes that won’t be troubling yer wallet in any way.
Kicking things off, we have streams from Howe Gelb, Sébastien Tellier, Josephine Foster, Black Sun Empire, Oh Land, Ricardo Tobar, Radical Face, A Lily, Superhumanoids, Peter Broderick, Mike Donovan, Midlake, Cut Copy, Laurel Halo, Alice Rose, The Jesus Herb and Kronos Quartet who’ve teamed up with National man Aaron Dessner on their newbie. You can hear them all over at [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link].
Meanwhile, over at [link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link] there are factory fresh albums from Hilary Hahn, Cate Le Bon and Luscious Jackson and a quality Songs: Ohia reissue to check out; [link]pitchfork.com/advance[/link] adds John Talabot, Mount Eerie, Creep, Flume, Rhys Chatham, Vaura and Ron Morelli to the mix; Jenny Wilson, Ancient Sky and Lily & Madeline are loitering with considerable intent at [link]www.nytimes.com/interactive/arts/music/pressplay.html?_r=3&[/link] and [link]albumstreams.com[/link] has quality fare from Eraas, Bespoken, Kiano & Below Bangkok, Prolyphic, Ancient Sky, Tough Age, Caspian, The Bamboos, Average Engines, Weekend Nachos, Broken Bells, Anton Franc, Blood Orange and Counting Crows.
His favourite Bruce Springsteen tune provides the title for Glen Hansard’s new Drive All Night EP, which Anti-Records are releasing physically on November 25 with digital following on December 3. All proceeds from the latter go the Little Kids Rock charity, which provides music education for youngsters who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
Glen’s take on ‘Drive All Night’ features Eddie Vedder on backing vocals, Jake Clemons on sax and Joe Henry on acoustic. The version below is from an earlier Hansard/Vedder get-together captured by Portuguese TV.
There are also three new tunes – ‘Pennies In The Fountain’, ‘Renata’ and ‘Step Out Of The Shadows’ – to feast on.

We are loving Jenny & Tyler’s gorgeous cover of U2’s ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’, which also features Sara Gloves.
It’s culled from For Freedom, the Nashville pop-folk duo’s upcoming EP, which also includes their takes on Smashing Pumpkins, Simon & Garfunkel, Coldplay, Cranberries, Louis Armstrong and Postal Service songs.
The taster’s free, but if you fancy tipping all proceeds are going to the fight against human trafficking. We strongly suspect Bono & the chaps would approve!

Also new from the Noise Trade stable is a four-tracker from London’s Peggy Sue who’ve toured with Local Natives and First Aid Kit and sound a little bit like both of them – their excellent full-length Choir Of Echoes album drops soon – and the debut EP from Kiev, a Californian outfit who’ve been hanging out with Radiohead, Beck and Air man Darrell Thorpe.
Our favourite Free Music Friday thing this week is Brass Tactics, a five-track EP from David Byrne and St. Vincent whose Electric Picnic appearance still has us all tingly.
It features a previously unreleased tune, remixes of ‘I Should Watch TV’ and ‘Lightning’ and live versions of ‘Marrow’ and Talking Heads nugget ‘Road To Nowhere’
Los Campesinos! have come over all Arcade Fire on their new No Blues album, which is streaming at [link]www.kcrw.com/music/programs/ap/ap131104los_campesinos_no_bl[/link]

A tasty-looking documentary about the Northside’s hip hop/street poetry scene, Broken Song, screens at the Dublin IFI from November 15 – 21.
Winner of both the Discovery and Audience awards at the Dublin International Film Festival, Claire Dix’s film focuses on GI, Costello and Willa Lee and is atmospherically shot in black and white with the occasional splash of colour.
The gala opening night also includes a Q+A with Dix and her stars who should all be familiar to Hot Press readers.
Limerick electro-poppers Protobaby have just unveiled the video for ‘Keep Running’ – a Village Of The Damned on roller skates-style run round the streets of their home city.
It’s the first clip of theirs to feature new singer Aoife McLoughlin who made it last year on to The Voice Of Ireland and reminds older Hot Press scribes of Pat Benetar in her AOR belting it out prime.
The video is the handiwork of Shane Serrano who seems to be the go-to guy locally for quality promos.
Lloyd Banks treats you to a Raekwon-assisted tune, which is very much the sum of its parts. Just scroll down at [link]www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQtxCO-x_3E[/link]
