Our sublime – and utterly free – online soundtrack to what is promising to be an absolute scorcher of a weekend. Not to tempt fate...
Our favourite Free Music Friday thing this week is this stripped down NPR set from Hamilton Leithauser, the (possibly former) Walkmen lead singer who showcase his Black Hours solo album.
One of the standouts from The Raveonettes’ Pe’ahi album, ‘Sisters’, is yours when you sign up to their [link]www.theraveonettes.com[/link] mailing-list. It rocks like a very noisy bastard but also has its gentler moments.
Free Music Friday has taken a bit of a shine to L’Anarchiste, a Salt Lake City trio who make a Local Natives-esque noise and Low Roar, yet another bunch of melodic alt. folksters residing in Reykjavik.
Elsewhere, Lily Allen debuts a Glasto-based promo for 'As Long As I Got You'.
To the streams now and Wakey! Wakey!, Joyce Manor, Clipping, Alvvays, Midnight Masses, PS I Love You, Electric Citizen, Sebastian Tellier, Honeyblood, Watery Love, Paws, Trampled By Turtles, Soft Powers and Hawser are doing their respective things at [link]3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link]; Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Wildest Dreams, Bear In Heaven and White Fence are the [link]www.npr.org/series/98679384/first-listen[/link] offerings; the always bounteous [link]albumstreams.com[/link] has Hooray For Earth, The Muffs, The John Steel Singers, Courtship Ritual, The Family Rain, Valentino Khan, Teleseen, Four Your Strong, RX Bandits, Electric Youth, Treasureseason, Famy, Weezer, Bear In Heaven, Common, Erasure and Cold War Kids, but only in certain territories; hit up [link]www.radio6.nl/luisterpaal[/link] for Sonny Rollins, Julian Velard, Hiromi, Somi and loads more world music types; The Muffs and Hooray For Earth let you try before you buy at [link]pitchfork.com/advance[/link] and [link]www.nytimes.com/interactive/arts/music/pressplay.html?_r=3&[/link] has the new album by the remarkable Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens.
Mixtape of the Week honours belong to Dave East, an uptown NYC MC who was the likes of Smoke DZA, Sean C & LV and Rico Beats on speed-dial.
We are love, love, loving the video for ‘All These Things’, the new single from Dublin hip hop duo Bushy & Woody who we’ve a bit of a Free Music Friday crush on.
Taking on the vocoder challenge and pulling it off with panache, Wexford trio Adebsisi Shank continue their confident return with 'World In Harmony'. This is the third track of This Is The Third Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank, doncha know. The LP drops August 12.
Staying with the Irish trawl and ending up in Limerick, Rubberbandits have a new video to share and they've brought a puppet Gabriel Byrne along for the ride.
And rounding off our homegrown offerings, a blast of Girl Band to shake off the cobwebs:
And finally, soul-pop siren Jessie Ware gives us the second taste of her upcoming album Tough Love.
And that’s another Free Music Friday wrap. Keep those links coming to @stuartclark66 and have a fab weekend.
