REWS, Neon Indian, Le Galaxie, brand new Blades, Giorgio Moroder teaming up with Britney Spears and more!
It's another massive sporting occasion that will dictate the mood of the nation and propel the victors ever closer to the promised land. But enough about the top of the Ryman League tussle between Tonbridge Angels and Kingstonian that Free Music Friday will be at on Saturday.
We expect a few of you will also be keeping an eye on what happens between Ireland and Argentina in the rugby - let's hope it's another glorious afternoon for the Boys In Green! To add extra frisson to the weekend, we've another ace collection of streams, downloads, vids and trailers from all corners of Planet Rock.
This week's favourite FMF thing is the album's worth of free tunes – offerings from Owen Pallett, Peaches, Swervedriver, Slayer, George Clinton, Skrillex and Run The Jewels among 'em - that can be downloaded free from [link]www.adultswim.com/music/singles-2015[/link]
Go on, fill your digital boots!
A minimum donation of a fiver buys you Thanks For Listening, a 14-track Paper Trail Records compilation which was released to coincide with World Mental Health Day and benefits the Console suicide charity.
There are quality tunes from among others Paddy Hanna, Katie Kim, Cloud Castle Lake, Infinity Girl and Tica Douglas, a Brooklynite whose own Joey album is worthy of your immediate attention.
Phenomenal a couple of Electric Picnics back, Neon Indian has gone and released VEGA INTL. Night School, a gem of an electropop album which has a real retro flavour to it.
NPR also brings you new album premieres from a seriously chilled/strung out/fuzzboxed Ty Segall; Skatebård, a maverick Norwegian producer who's downright disrespectful of genres; Car Seat Headrest, aka Will Toledo, who's released eleven albums since 2010 on Bandcamp and is now bringing his outsider pop to the masses; French-Canadian glam boogie merchants Chic Gamine and Maserati, a Georgian outfit with something of a Krautrock bent.
[link]www.theguardian.com/music/series/album-streams[/link] adds Real Lies and ADMX-71 to the mix while the folk at [link]www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/08/05/arts/music/press-play.html?_r=3&[/link] want you to meet David Wax Museum who have a gorgeous woozy, Mexican-flecked folk thing going on.
REWS, the Belfast/London duo which includes former Silhouette woman Shauna Tohill, open their account on October 23 with the frenetic 'Can You Feel It?' They've gone the Pledge Music route to fund four Rocky O'Reilly-produced singles over the next eight months with accompanying videos.
Dublin duo The Shruggs put a massive grin on your face with the video for 'The Ooh Song'.
The Metropolis-bound Giorgio Moroder has posted a lyrics video for the Britney Spears revamp of Suzanne Vega's 'Tom's Diner', which graces his first studio album in over 30 years, Déjà Vu. Stay tuned to hotpress.com for some big Metropolis spoken word additions!
The Blades are letting you try their new single, 'Smalltime', before you buy. It's a brassy slowbuilder which will doubtless be ecstatically received on December 5 when the chaps play the Olympia.
Le Galaxie have premiered the video for new single 'Put The Chain On'. It was shot by Tony Kearns during the band's 3D gig in Temple Bar's Meeting House Square, which was a veritable feast for the senses.
Tony Benn, John Lennon, Muhammed Ali, Ian Duncan Smith, Barack Obama, David Cameron, Rupert Murdoch and Bertrand Russell all feature in the hard-hitting news reportage vid for Marc Carroll's 'Ball And Chain', a quality power pop offering from the Dubliner's Love Is All Or Love Is Not At All, album which follows in early November.
Things mightn't have worked out too well recently with Morrissey, but the Harvest label is in otherwise rude health with Best Coast, BANKS, The Libertines, Glass Animals and London quirk poppers par excellence, The Mispers among the contributors to this 13-track mixtape.
Also from the Noise Trade stable - but this time you must pay! - is My Feet Keep Moving Still: Songs For Steps Of Faith, a generously endowed 27-track sampler benefiting an American amputee charity. Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Wynonna & The Big Noise, Ruby Amanfu, The Vespers and Butterfly Boucher are among those offering up tasty treats.
Former Republic Of Loose man CC Brez has come up with this live performance vid for funky divil of a new single, 'When It Feels Good'.
And that dear friends is your Free Music Friday lot for another week. Let's hope that come 2.50pm on Sunday we're still dreaming of World Cup glory and keep those links coming to @stuartclark66
