As the pre-Scotland nerves kick in, we bring you a selection of Free Music Friday goodies guaranteed to quell the Six Nations hebegebees.
To compensate for her ‘Yung Rapunxel’ single being delayed until next month – it had been due in time for Valentine’s Day – Azealia Banks has posted a killer remix of Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’.
Azealia being Azealia the track is mired in controversy with the aforementioned 23-year-old producer mate of Diplo’s claiming that he hadn’t approved the re-working of his signature hit.
Insisting that he had given her permission, Banks called Baauer a “pussy” and “faggot” on Twitter, which resulted in censure from The Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and the same heated online debate that followed her use of the f-word when having a pop before Christmas at Perez Hilton.

Due on April 5, it’s accompanied by this performance video shot in Donegal’s Attica Audio Recording studio, which is owned by Villagers’ guitarist Tommy McLaughlin.
Free Music Friday was saddened by the death earlier in the week of award-winning country star Mindy McCready. It appears that the 37-year-old, who had a long history of drug abuse, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Here’s how we’ll remember her:
This week’s mixtape-ry starts with a seven-tracker from ForteBowie, a southside Atlanta spitter who pulls absolutely no punches.
If it’s “bent, disheveled, breaking apart pimp rap” you’re after, look no further than the In Dark Denim mix San Jose’s Antwon has gifted us at [link]www.mediafire.com/?vhu0p0cfbwe5rr8[/link]
GI and Costello have just unleashed their new JacKKnife J-mixed and mastered Mary Jane album.
Another streetwise slice of Dublin hip hop, it includes ‘Ghostwritin’’, ‘Rock Shit Scandalous’, ‘Smack Haze’, ‘Praises 2 Da Jungle’ and ‘Underground Cipher’ among its bumper 18 tracks.

Alison Moyet is back and previewing an ace new tune from her The Minutes album at [link]alisonmoyet.com[/link]; he slipped in under the Free Music Friday radar but here belatedly – and with lots of sloppy kisses – is Hudson Mohawke’s fab Valentine’s Day mix; the anthems are strictly of the massive variety on the [link]stereogum.com/1261881/download-araabmuzik-for-professional-use-only-mixtape/mp3s[/link] mix assembled by Araab Muzik who’s a far better producer than speller; hotshot Manchester ambient man Lone gifts us new track ‘Portal’ at [link]soundcloud.com/lone-1/am-portal[/link] and former War On Drugs man Kurt Vile – great name! – leaps into solo action with this [link]www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/kurt_vile/kurt_vile_wakin_on_a_pretty_day.mp3[/link] Wakin’ On A Pretty Daze album taster.
Having debunked from Los Angeles to London, former La Rocca mainman Bjorn Baillie – despite the Nordic name he’s a Son of Erin – has assembled a fabulous debut solo album, Vista. Due in March, it’s streaming here in all its 45min 35sec glory, but only for a week.
Those lovely Noise Trade people are their usual generous selves with free (but you’re welcome to tip) offerings from English troubadour John Wesley Harding, new-ish Americana sensation Cody Fry and loopy Latin American Elado Negro.

It’s not downloadable – boo! – but we’re still loving this acoustic turn by New Zealand native Ruban Nielson, AKA the driving force behind Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

Crying out for some iTunes love is this unplugged set from Night Beds, a Nashville-born, Colorado-residing 23-year-old by the name of Winston Yellen. We suspect James Vincent McMorrow fans will rather like it!
The week’s visual treats continue with the lepidopterologist-tastic vid for Primal Scream’s ‘2013’, the first taster from their More Light album, which follows in May.
Sound-wise, we’re thinking Eno-era Roxy crossed with the wonderful parping sax that punctuated Bowie’s Pin-Ups covers collection.
Our national pride has been swelled too with Kevin Shields back guesting on guitar and David Holmes taking care of (audio) production. All round a stunner!
The superb version of Tom Waits’ ‘Martha’ that Lisa Hannigan and Cormac Curran performed as part of the Turning Pirate Mixtape NYE 2012 festivities in Vicar St. has found its way online.
If the divine Ms. H ever does a covers album, this has, has, has to be on it!
