2007 could see an indie-techno fusion turn electronic music upside down. Gui Boratto’s ‘Chromophobia’ integrates folky guitars and breathy vocals with soaring techno, while Pantha Du Prince’s ‘This Bliss’ made the connection between minimal and shoegazing indie. From Here We Go…, the debut album by Swedish producer Axel Wilner, also looks to ’80s indie. It focuses on the epic qualities of Ride and MBV, combined with Wilner’s cosmic pop chops and his predilection for shuffly techno grooves. ‘Over The Ice’ is a good example of The Field’s three-way experiment, with a blissed out avalanche of electronic sounds cascading over a shiny groove, while the beautifully sad ‘The Little Heart Beats So Fast’ is the centrepiece of in Wilner’s field of dreams.
