The details have been announced of the funeral of the late Philomena Lynott, mother of Philip Lynott of Thin Lizzy fame – and the author of the No.1 best-selling autobiography, My Boy.
The funeral of Philomena Lynott will take place on Monday, with a mass scheduled for St. Fintan’s Church in Sutton at 12 noon.
The mass will be followed by burial in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, where Philomena’s son, the legendary Philip Lynott, is also buried.
The shock news of Philomena’s death was announced by Hot Press yesterday. Born in 1930, she was 88 years-of-age.
Philomena had finally succumbed to the cancer, with which she had battled with great courage over the past two years and more. Since the sad news emerged, a huge number of tributes have been paid to Philomena Lynott, including by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, Hot Press editor Niall Stokes, bands like Metallica and Therapy? and numerous singers and performers, including Jerry Fish and Damien Dempsey – among many, many more.
Philomena was hugely loved by fans of Thin Lizzy and fans of Philip Lynott. But, following the No.1 best-selling performance of her autobiography, My Boy, written with Jackie Hayden and published by Hot Press Books, she had become more than just a cult figure herself.
“She will be hugely missed not just by fans of Thin Lizzy,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said, “but by fans of Philomena Lynott."
