The Galway producer has just dropped a new LP and a music video for the album's titular track Future Nostalgia
Future Nostalgia is the latest offering from Electric Dream's Aengus Hackett, under his producer alias Penji.
Electric Dreams are a pop band supported by 'That’s Life', the award-winning arts programme of the Brothers of Charity Services, Galway.
Future Nostalgia is a more electronic sounding LP than Electric Dream's debut, Behind The Mask, with an emphasis on soft lo-fi beats.
This solo project sees Penji explore themes of 'alienation and humanity’s growing dependence on technology during the pandemic', with tracks such as 'A.I. Love You' and 'WORLDWIDEWEB' nodding to these issues.
Created with the support of the Arts Council of Ireland, Future Nostalgia puts groove and harmony to the forefront across the release. The title track features a lush guitar loop which comfortably sits in the unusual 11/8 time signature and still plays smooth as ambient jazz.
Other album highlights include 'See Quince Jelly', which features ominous electronic drums building up into a wall of sound. Overall Future Nostalgia walks the fine line of being a heavy but smooth LP.
