Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy are only happy when it rains, as they revisit Garbage’s classic self-titled debut from 1995. Plus an interview with Butch Vig.
Hot Press Classics is back for its seventh instalment, where Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy examine the legacy of Garbage's self-titled debut album from 1995.
Formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisonsin, Garbage is made up of Scottish singer Shirley Manson, legendary producer Butch Vig, as well as as musicians Duker Erikson and Steve Marker - a lineup which has remained unchanged since the band's inception.
Their debut record Garbage, which came out in 1995, was met with widespread critical acclaim, selling over four million copies and achieving double platinum certification in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
As the album celebrates its 30th anniversary, Paul Nolan and Kilian Murphy discuss the importance of the band's music videos and their visual identities, Garbage's production background, and their origin story.
Elsewhere, they examine Shirley Manson's legendary presence as a front woman, the band's trip hop influences and their pop-flavoured soundscapes.
