"This isn’t about religion or politics at this stage, it’s about basic human rights,” The Mary Wallopers have commented.
A major gig has been announced for later this month at Dublin's Vicar Street, in order to raise awareness and funds for the people of Gaza. Set to take place on Tuesday, November 28, the show will feature music from Lankum, The Mary Wallopers, Damien Dempsey, Lisa O'Neill, Pauline Scanlon, Síle Denvir, and Niamh Dunne & Friends – with all proceeds going to the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Gig For Gaza will be the first of a series of events taking place across Ireland under the 'Irish Artists for Palestine' banner. You can find more information about the upcoming shows here.
Tickets for the Vicar Street gig will cost €45 plus booking fee, and go on sale via Ticketmaster this Friday, November 3, at 10am.

You can also purchase a special gig poster – designed by Selkies and screen-printed by Damn Fine Print – from Bang Bang café in Phibsboro next week, and at the gig itself. The posters are €30, with all proceeds going to the fundraiser.
“Like most people of sound mind and reason around the globe, we are heartbroken and shocked to see the indiscriminate murder of children and civilians happening for the past few weeks," Lankum have commented. "This, on top of decades of oppression, persecution and dehumanisation is something we can only struggle to comprehend. That is why we are very proud to raise our voices in solidarity with the people of Palestine. It's the very very least we can do."
Damien Dempsey has also stressed the need for "the international community to push very hard, now, for a Palestinian state, which would benefit both the children of Palestine and of Israel."
The Mary Wallopers, meanwhile, are urging "everybody to spread awareness about what is happening in Palestine", noting that "this isn't about religion or politics at this stage, it's about basic human rights."
“It’s hard to fathom the immense and horrific reality on the ground for civilians and those fighting as this conflict continues," Lisa O'Neill remarks. "If we can hold a light for all those suffering, even for a few hours through the historical and powerful medium of song, then of course we will. A song that is speaking to me profoundly at present is ‘Brothers In Arms’ written by Mark Knopfler:

So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones'"
According to its website, Medical Aid for Palestinians – the charity the gig is supporting – works to provide "immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system."
Earlier this week, Gaza's Health Ministry reported that the Palestinian death toll since October 7 has passed 8,000 – a figure mostly made up of women and children.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 3, at 10am. See Ticketmaster for more information.
