Gilbert O’Sullivan has announced the release of a Songbook containing 12 newly recorded versions of tunes from throughout his career – including the 1971 hit ‘Alone Again, (Naturally)’.
Set to arrive on September 27, the project was recorded at an audience-free Lafayette in King’s Cross, London, and features long-time guitarist Bill Shanley as well as producers Andy Wright and Gavin Goldberg.
Other early O’Sullivan songs featured include ‘Nothing Rhymed’, ‘We Will’ and ‘Happiness Is You and Me’, with more recent tracks like ‘Dansette Dreams and 45s’ and ‘I’ll Never Love Again’, and 2022’s ‘Blue Anchor Bay’ also present.
Born in Waterford (where he recently received ‘Freedom of the City’) and raised in England, O’Sullivan has gone on to enjoy a career that has spanned 55 years and Top 10 singles, with no. 1’s around the world. ‘Alone Again (Naturally)’ topped the US charts for six weeks and earned him three Grammy nominations.
