The Irish rock band Girl Band confirmed a headline show in LA and announced their American and UK tour dates. The band has also shared their Live at Rocky’s House NYC Session of the songs 'Amygdala' and 'Laggard'.
Girl Band burst onto the scene in 2015 with their debut album Holding Hands with Jamie, stunning listeners with their furious, confrontational, visceral noise and singer Dara Kiely’s cleverly meandering screeds. Following a two-year hiatus, the group came together again in late 2018 to record their follow-up, The Talkies, at Ballintubbert House, on the outskirts of Dublin.
The Talkies was recorded and produced by Girl Band bassist Daniel Fox, who utilized the strange architecture of Ballintubbert House to create a unique sound. In one example, all the drums for the album were recorded twice, once on the staircase landing and once in the cellar so that during production they could cut between the two different sounds. On their song ‘Aibohphobia’, (which translates to fear of palindromes), the instrumentals are played both forward and backward, while Kiely sings all in palindromes.
Girl Band will play Cyprus Avenue in Cork on March 7 and All Together Now in July, tickets for all future shows are available here.
