Portishead: “Glory Box” (Go Beat)
From what are justifiably one of the most exciting groups of the moment, ‘Glory Box’ is really the unofficial fourth single of the fortnight. If Louise ‘Lulu’ Brooks had been into Punk this is probably what she’d have sounded like. What’s more, the lyrical content, which is a catchcry for an empowering engendering of womanhood through sexual desire, matches the highly stylised musical hybridity of it all. ‘Glory Box’ is a weird and wonderful mutation of so many styles that it lures you into it’s Pandora-like charms.
