There's some quality Irish hip hop to be had on January 13 as MuRli releases his seven-track Surface Tension EP.
Of Togolese descent, the 24-year-old is one third of the GodKnows + mynameisjOhn live set-up - both feature in the ST credits - and a master storyteller in his own right.
The likes of 'Strangerphobia' and 'Champagne And Chinchillas' defy easy categorisation with loads of jazzy/funky/bluesy embellishments and some pure pop hooks.
“With no job, no money, and hence an eternity of time on my hands, I entered a stage of deep reflection," he says of the record's genesis. "I started to question my earlier choices in life, and my overall role in society. What have I got to do to be more like the people around? What have I got to do to get to their levels? What’s wrong with the world? How come society seems to be on a downward slope at a time when we have achieved so much in terms of technological development, among others?”
Surface Tension will initially be available from MuRli's Bandcamp and is yet another reason to be #LimerickAndProud
