The Waterford group are to become the official soundtrack of the Irish drifting team Wexican Motorsport.
In an age where Bob Dylan sells everything from Pepsi to Cadillacs, using your music to sell a product is no longer as frowned upon as it once was.
Closer to home, Cathy Davey sprung to fame off the back of a Vodafone ad, while The Laundry Shop enjoyed huge exposure from having their 'Highs And Lows' song soundtrack a Discover Ireland campaign.
Now it's the turn of Waterford fivepiece Gorbachov, who are trying something a little different, as they've announced an official pairing with Wexican Motorsport, a drifting team run my former Prodrift European Champion Martin Ffrench. (Drifting – for those of you who were wondering – is an unconventional type of motorsport involving cars sliding sideways around corners.)
Ffrench will use music from Gorbachov's Can’t Start the Machine debut for promotional material throughout the 2009 Irish and UK drifting season, with the band providing a rocking soundtrack for videos of the man in action.

Ffrench is more than happy with the deal, saying: "We are absolutely delighted to be paired with one of Ireland's fastest upcoming bands. We wanted to partner with someone who reflected the same energy and passion we at Wexican have for motorsport and we have definitely found that in Gorbachov."
He adds that he believes this marks the first official pairing of a motorsport team with a band.
Gorbachov's Alan Hennessy says the partnership will be good for both the band, and Wexican Motorsport: "We are delighted to be teaming up with one of Irelands best drifters. It's good for both parties, our name gets out there to people that may not have heard of us and visa versa for the lads in Wexican. We look forward to helping each other out in whatever way we can over the next year and beyond!"
