Gorillaz announce new album Cracker Island
The virtual band announced a new album along with a fresh single that will have listeners begging to join "The Last Cult."
Award-winning band Gorillaz just announced a new studio album titled Cracker Island, which will be released in February 24 of next year. Along with confirming the rumours of a new album, the group of musical misfits released the highly-anticipated single 'New Gold' featuring multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker of psychedelic music project Tame Impala and Bootie Brown of alternative hip-hop group the Pharcyde.
With bassist and singer Thundercat featured on the album's title track, other collaborators for the album include Stevie Nicks, Bad Bunny, Beck and Adeleye Omotayo. Recorded in London and Los Angeles earlier this year, Cracker Island is looking like another badge for Gorillaz ongoing success with production by eight-time Grammy award winner Greg Kurstin, Gorillaz and Remi Kabaka Jr. This announcement follows the release of the 'Cracker Island' single and music video that premiered back in July, complete with a psychedelic and allusive music video taking place in a Hollywood hospital. This is Gorillaz's eighth studio album, following the Meanwhile EP in 2021.
Cracker Island follows band members Murdoc, Russel, Noodles and 2D as they relocate from their original quarters at Kong Studios in West London to Silverlake, California to recruit members for "The Last Cult."
Speaking on the upcoming album, guitarist Noodle said "Cracker Island is the sound of change and the chorus of the collective." Drummer Russel added, "When the reckoning comes, gotta be ready to step through the gateway. Cracker Island's got the entry codes..."
Gorillaz are currently embarking on a world tour alongside Damon Albarn and will be making their way to North America and Australia this upcoming season. They recently took to the stage in Dublin at 3Arena on August 17.
