As part of the celebrations for the upcoming 50th anniversary of their debut album, the Grateful Dead have announced plans for a comprehensive reissue of their entire discography.
Regarded as one of the coolest bands on the planet, the Grateful Dead recorded 13 studio albums and countless live albums since they formed in San Francisco back in the mid-60s .
Dead Head fans will be excited to learn that the iconic band plan over time to re-release remastered versions of all of the studio and official live albums, as double CDs and vinyl picture discs, with a bonus disc of previously unreleased recordings.
They will kick-off off the process with the re-release of their eponymous debut album on 20 January 2017.
Their first remastered deluxe edition album will come with a previously unreleased live concert recorded in Canada back in 1966.
“The Grateful Dead is the Grateful Dead as they existed, a slice of their fast-changing live repertoire circa 1967,” author Jesse Jarnow writes in the line notes for the deluxe edition.
“Nothing would ever be the same, but nothing had ever been the same with the Dead from the time of their second show onward.”
