Grava 4
The hypnotically deep electronic sounds are there on, but there's a tougher, atonal sound present
They might be responsible for electronic music’s best ongoing hype campaign, but thankfully mysterious Detroit electronic duo Drexciya have the spellbinding musical charms to back up their preposterous mock serious beliefs. Incredibly, ‘Grava 4’ is the duo’s seventh studio album in the last twelve months – either together or under different guises, and sees them slightly changing course from their recent excursion on Tresor. Granted, the hypnotically deep electronic sounds are there on ‘Cascading Celestial Giants’ and ‘Powers Of The Deep’, but there’s a tougher, atonal sound present on the metallic funk and staccato beats of ‘Drexciyan REST Principle’ and ‘Hightech Nomads’, while the chiming melodies of ‘700 Million Light Years From Earth’ proves there’s a heart beating behind the machines. No one does it better than Drexciya.
