In a 13-minute video, 26-year-old singer Halsey reveals upcoming album art that celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies, hoping to reduce stigma around birth and breastfeeding.
Nine days after announcing the title of their new project, Halsey has shared the cover art and release date for their upcoming album. If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, their fourth studio album, will be released August 27.
To reveal the album art, Halsey shared a video of walking around the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City looking at classic European religious art. It ends with the reveal of the cover, which features Halsey seated on an ornate golden throne holding a baby.
In the Instagram post revealing the album art, the singer explained how If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power is a concept album about "the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth." They describe the art as "the dichotomy of Madonna and the Whore" because her body can simultaneously be a vessel or gift and something sexual.
"This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired," she wrote. "We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!"
