Hand Habits, aka Meg Duffy, played in Kevin Morby's live band before launching their own project.
Meg Duffy, who performs under the moniker Hand Habits, has announced their new album Fun House will be released on October 22 via Saddle Creek.
The record will be the third album from Hand Habits following 2019's placeholder and Wildly Idle (Humble Before the Void) which debuted in 2017.
The creation of Fun House has been a collaborative effort for Duffy; it was produced by Sasami Ashworth, engineered by Kyle Thomas, and features guest vocals from Perfume Genius on two of the tracks. The album will also include Duffy's new song 'Aquamarine' which was released yesterday.
Talking about 'Aquamarine' in a statement, Duffy noted its evolution during the writing process from an acoustic ballad to a story following the exploration of identity.
“It was my goal to cloak some of the perils of mortality (lyrically) in a musical landscape that didn’t require the listener for a large amount of patience, to bring grief into the metaphorical club. We filmed this video in my aunt’s bar and club in upstate New York, linking the origin and lineage themes in the song with the visuals of changing identities and characters in a space I used to wander as a teen,” they said.
Duffy is the sole member of their Hand Habits project and their sound has been compared to the theatrical folk-rock of Big Thief and Angel Olsen. They have also lent their session musician talents to the likes of Weyes Blood and The War on Drugs. In 2019 , Pitchfork dubbed Duffy "your favourite indie rocker's favourite guitarist", simultaneously highlighting her skill and underappreciation.
