Admittedly, I’m not sure which version of Taio Cruz’s ‘Hangover’ I’m basing this review on (Flo Rida edit? Super-clean edit? Semi-clean No “shit” edit? It’s all so confusing), but something about this track is utterly patronising. I understand that glistening R&B stars like Taio Cruz are obliged to write songs about getting trashed for the benefit of wasters and piss artists across the globe, but the emotionless delivery on ‘Hangover’ make it particularly transparent. Cruz can force out lines like “I can go until I low up/I can drink until I throw up/And I don’t ever want to grow up” all he wants, but the jig is well and truly up. Overachieving chart-topping entrepreneurs like Cruz don’t have time for frivolous non-money making activities like drinking, and they shouldn’t be writing songs about it, neither.
