Irish trad family the Henshaws have teamed up with the queen of trad Sharon Shannon to release a new album just in time for Christmas. The special album The Secret Sessions is in aid of the South Westmeath Hospice and will be available from 1 December.

International rugby player come musician Robbie Henshaw said he and his family are thrilled to have Sharon Shannon on board. He admitted to idolizing her growing up, "Sharon Shannon was a musician I always looked up to and it is really special to have the chance to play tunes with her on this album."

Sharon Shannon was equally as excited to be a part of the album, saying "The Henshaws are all great musicians and it’s been a privilege to be involved in such a good fun project for such a worthy cause.”

Shannon explained how she joined the family in a session in the 3 Jolly Pigs pub when first meeting the group. Having such fun and seeing their music blend well together, she was "delighted" to included in The Secret Sessions album, "They invited me to be involved in their family CD and I was delighted to be able to offer help."

The musician also revealed her close connection to the Henshaws and why they chose the South Westmeath Hospice. “Ted Quinn and his family have been friends of mine for many years. Ted played and sang in a band with Billy Henshaw (Robbie's grandad) for many years. Teddy's wife Ann passed away at South Westmeath Hospice a few years back, so he and The Henshaws wanted to make a CD to fundraise for the hospice that cared for Ann during the most vulnerable time of her illness."

Together they hope to support and raise funds for the Athlone-based centre through this album release. Robbie Henshaw praised its work, as it provides "an outstanding service and support to patients and families in the Westmeath and Roscommon area."

The album was recorded in Bressie's Camden Studios in Dublin between Shannon's touring schedule and Robbie Henshaw's Leinster and Ireland commitments.

The Secret Sessions will be available on iTunes and as a CD from 1 December.
