Currently working on another soundtrack project in LA, David Holmes is about to return home to Belfast – to start work on his first directorial project.
Techno legend David Holmes – famous for his Oceans 11 soundtracks – is moving behind the camera for his first feature film. Holmer’s production company Canderblinks are gearing up to shoot Good Vibrations, a film about Belfast music visionary and cult hero Terri Hooley, who opened a record shop of the same name in one of the most volatile areas in the city at the height of the troubles.
However, he gets back to his dance roots later this month, when he goes back to back with kindred spirit and sometime singing partner Andrew Weatherall for a once off show at The Good Bits on June 24, a must-see considering these two have not graced the same bill in Ireland since the
early 90s.
A new contender is lining up to join this summer’s spate of dance mini-festivals. The Beatyard Festival, from June 4 – 6, sees the guys behind Dublin’s successful Twisted Pepper and Bernard Shaw – Bodytonic – packing both venues full of club-tastic entertainment which includes dubstep kingpin Caspa, Marcel Dettman and Andy Votel plus DJ workshops with Pioneer and art events curated by Dublin graffiti maverick Maser. Also on the festival circuit, The Life Festival have attached another string to their bow with the addition of the Melt Healing Area.
This chill-out tent is the brainchild of The Melt Natural Healing Centre in Temple Bar, Dublin and will run throughout the three-day Mullingar shindig, offering massage, holistic therapies and organic food. Not to be outdone, Electric Picnic have announced French maestro Laurent Garnier on their dance bill. Garnier’s presence will send a thrill up the spines of veteran Picnic troopers who remember his show-stopping 2005 and 2006 EP performances.
This month Dublin’s prestigious Pulse Recording Studios are offering budding dance producers a chance to get a handle on the ultimate piece of kit in any serious electronic music studio – the ProTools editing suite.
An intensive course to tame this much feared studio beast will be held on June 14 and 15 at their internal training college, with an option for more advanced ProTools courses from 16 – 25 of the month. Come and have a go if you think you’re ‘ard enough, get an application form and more details at www.pulsecollege.eu/
Dibby Dougherty is one of the rare Irish DJs to get behind a set of decks in Mexico. The Derry-born, Belfast-based tech-house jock is playing the Union Jack Ensenada in Mexico City on June 19, while continuing his residency at up and coming clubnight Yello at the Mynt Bar, Belfast. Meanwhile his namesake and Northern compatriot Dane Doherty is continuing to impress, recently joining IDJ Top 10 Best DJ Marteen De Jong on the remix duties for Sebas Daniels and William Walker’s ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’
