For their fourth studio album, Australian jazz-funk outfit Hiatus Kaiyote offer up a body of work that teems with wide-eyed optimism, existential journeys towards mindfulness and psychedelic ebullience.
Hiatus Kaiyote have today unveiled their forthcoming album Love Heart Cheat Code, which drops on 28th June via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune.
Parallel to the announcement, the band have also shared a new single 'Make Friends,' the second offering from their upcoming project following the recent single 'Everything's Beautiful.'
The Australian jazz-funk outfit further revealed a visual announcement of the album, comprising a 3-D world of a family supermarket that the band created, which you can view below.

The follow-up number, 'Make Friends,' was inspired by sage advice imparted to the four-piece by a friend who noted, “You don’t make friends, you recognise them.” The wisdom reminded frontwoman Nai Palm of underrepresented platonic love and connection.
“I wanted to have representation for just the different examples of people that I love from the women in my life, to the men, to my non-binary friends,” Nai remarks. “And it was very natural and fun to work on as a formula.”
'Make Friends' is an ambitious offering composed of a single verse, which Nai reprises and filters through three gender permutations, that is female, male and nonbinary.
“When I sang the third verse, the ‘them/they’ verse, I actually had to stop. Just realising that inclusivity is so often denied to some of the people that I love the most, my best besties,'" she continued.
Love Heart Cheat Code, the fourth album from Hiatus Kaiyote, is a supercut of four musicians dancing together on the edge over 11 upbeat, vibrant tracks. Yet, for a band that garnered high-praise, from audiences and critics alike, for their maximalist bent, this new album is strikingly simplistic by comparison.
As such, the band's direction on the forthcoming project is less deliberate and more improvised. For Love Heart Cheat Code, they enlisted musicians such as Taylor “Chip” Crawford who played an instrument of his own invention called the frello, guitarist Tom Martin, and flautist Nikodemos; and the unprecedented addition of a vital creative mind: Mario Caldato, known for his legendary work with the Beastie Boys and Seu Jorge. They also worked with Sri Lanken born, Toronto-based multimedia artist Rajni Perera, using one of her paintings as artwork for the album.
