Ed Sheeran, who played nine stadium-sized concerts in Ireland this year, tops the list of the highest-grossing tours in 2018.
Industry analyst Pollstar revealed their findings today, which indicated that Ed Sheeran's 'Divide' tour had amassed over $432m (£342m) from 4.86m tickets sold.
This makes Ed Sheeran's tour the highest-grossing in a calendar year since Pollstar began its rankings nearly 30 years ago. In 2017, the highest-grossing tour was U2's The Joshua Tree Tour, which set the previous record and brought in $316m.
U2's 360 tour, which took place from 2009-2011, remains the highest-grossing tour ever, with $736m. This year, their more unstated (at least size-wise anyway) 'Songs of Experience' tour came ninth on the list, generating $126.2 million from over 900,000 tickets.
Second on the 2018 list was Taylor Swift, whose 'Reputation' tour brought in $345.1 million. The Pennsylvania-born singer performed twice at Ireland's biggest stadium, Croke Park over the summer. Elsehwere, Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s collaborative 'On the Run II' tour brought in $254.1 million.
