The London art-punk band finally announce their debut LP and return to Dublin.
HMLTD is a band for the times. Their gender-bending image and frenetic punk energy comes across as nothing short of necessary in 2019. Known for incendiary live performances, the group has amassed a cult-following all without dropping a debut album. Today they announce their long-awaited full-length record, West of Eden, due for release on February 7th, 2020 via UK independent label Lucky Number.
Additionally, the group has announced a European tour which includes a stop in Dublin at The Sound House on February 18th, 2020. Tickets are priced at €18 and go on sale this Friday at 10 AM.
Alongside today’s announcement, HMLTD share the video for brand new single and album opener ‘The West Is Dead.’ In true HMLTD fashion, the track is a scathing political critique that musically blurs the line between spaghetti western scores, club music, and punk. The track features a driving bassline, pulsing electronics and Spychalski’s anxious vocal delivery. The accompanying haunting visuals depict a near-future Europe plunged back into feudalism after total collapse. Shot by Niall Trask, it continues the band’s run of thought-provoking videos. Speaking on the track, Spychalski explains, 'this is not dystopia, but a mirror up to late capitalism; where we are and where we’re headed. Sick dolphins lap at the tide, the insects have all dropped from the skies and the global economy enters free fall. Ecological catastrophe guaranteed. The West is dead. Atomised, alienated and apathetic.'
