The Scottish singer responded to the news saying: “Ireland, I could kiss you all passionately on the mouth.”
Lewis Capaldi has debuted at Number 1 on this week’s Official Irish Singles Chart with 'Hold Me While You Wait'.
The Scotsman’s latest track is taken from his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent which gets its release on May 17. The track rocketed to the top spot with a lead of 599 combined sales. The song was the most downloaded of the week and ends the four-week reign of Lil Nas X’s 'Old Town Road' which drops to Number 2.
Lewis told OfficialCharts.com/Ireland: “Ireland, I could kiss you all passionately on the mouth… with tongues. [Ireland] is the first ever country I’ve had two Number 1s in. It’s incredible. Thank you so much to everyone who went out and streamed and bought it. Madness!”
Now with two chart toppers and five Top 50 hits under his belt, Ireland is officially Lewis Capaldi’s most successful territory in relation of chart accomplishments.
