A highlight of the domestic music calendar, Hard Working Class Heroes is back!
It’s Hard Working Class Heroes time again! From October 3 to 5, various venues throughout Dublin will be taken over by a stellar sonic army providing music lovers with an aural buffet that’s beyond their wildest dreams. Highlights include Galway’s Dott (gearing up for their debut album release), fellow City Of The Tribes resident Elaine Mai, the beguiling Hozier, dreamy soundscape-crafters Tandem Felix, the garage-loving September Girls and lots, lots more! See hotpress.com for full details….
Wicklow five-piece Croupier will also be taking part in HWCH activities. Before that, they launch new EP Visor in Whelan’s on September 27. The release follows last year’s wonderful self-titled album and is apparently a less aggressive, more melodic effort – intriguing! Support on launch night comes from Colour // Sound...
Also on the weekend bill is The Late David Turpin, who has just released his enchanting new album We Belong Dead. The collection was three years in the making and is the first under his new moniker (prompted by a near-death experience apparently).
The debut offering from the album, ‘A Warning to the Curious’, garnered rave reviews. It features strings by Cora Venus Lunny, guitar by Conor O’Brien and was mixed by Stephen Shannon. Expect fare of comparable flawless quality on the LP.
Following his exemplary performance at Electric Picnic, Ultan Conlon is taking to the road to promote his new album, Songs Of Love So Cruel. Ultan’s tour kicks off Galway October 4 (check hotpress.com for a full list of dates).
Since debut album Bless Your Heart was unleashed in 2009, Ultan has been making a name for himself as a gifted songwriter and performer. So make sure to get your mitts on a copy of the new offering.
Brian Walton and his band (who you may know in previous guise The Fusion Family) are gearing up for the launch of their new single ‘Love Makes You Crazy’ on September 27. They play The Tramyard in Dalkey the following day to celebrate.
The band have had a very exciting few months, as they wowed attendees at the rap party of the new Jimi Hendrix movie All Is By My Side on front of Andre 3000 and a host of other luminaries. Ace music supervisor Danny Bramson (Almost Famous / Mission Impossible 3) was in the crowd. He was so impressed he invited the guys to stay with him on a recent LA jaunt.
Whilst in the States, the band recorded their forthcoming album, Dreams Like These, and contributed to producer Danny Saber’s (Rolling Stones/ U2) Saber Bytes 2 compilation! Ones to watch methinks….
And finally we were very excited to hear the uber-talented Barry McCormack launches his new album, Cut Throat Lane, in the imposing environs of the National Concert Hall (Kevin Barry Room) on October 18. Tickets are a steal at €10.
