Lamp Recordings is a new Cork based label that presented its first two signings this week live in the Lobby. Three piece Waiting Room are currently recording their second album and follow up to their debut Losing Patience. Stanley Super 800 performed material he has been writing over the last two months in a disused bus station on the outskirts of Cork city. Both artists will undertake a national tour soon under the Switched On banner. Lamp releases by both artists will follow in the Autumn.
Julius Geezer Records have a busy schedule and a charming new maxim – “taking a piss on company time since 1998.” Joan Of Arse will unveil new material in October entitled Mating Under the Gallows. All songs bar one are from their recording sessions with Steve Albini in Chicago. The Arse will also be touring France with Nad Navillus. Large Mound’s Raised on Rock will be available throughout the UK and Europe via Cargo distribution. Paul O’Reilly has been outselling The Frames by two to one in the largest record outlet in the world – HMV on London’s Oxford Street. Tearing way ahead of the Paddy pack however was Tipperary chanteuse Gemma Hayes, and those figures are not taking into account her Mercury Music Prize nomination.
The debut album from The Hollows is well, wonderful.
Throughout the rest of August, Phutloose Records present a live project after their excellent It’s All Good compilation. Saville, Blotooth, Sonora, Alligator, Damien Dempsey, Dr Millar, Colm Quearney, Duncan Maitland, Dave Couse and Turn are all giving it socks in the Temple Bar Music Centre.
