Dublin’s longest running acoustic night The Ruby Sessions presents an excellent bill of fare for the summer. Artists such as Damien Rice, David Kitt, Mundy, Gemma Hayes, Nina Hynes, Liam O’Maonlai, Luka Bloom, The Dudley Corporation, Keith Moss and Rodrigo y Gabriella are just some of the acts who have played unannounced to date. Late June/July attractions include Suzanne Rhatigan, Margaret Healy, Rory Faithfield, Sarah Jane Hudson, Eugene Brosnan, Illyad, Susan Enan, Annet Buckley, Sean Needham, James Gilmartin, Stewart Agnew and Sean Molloy of The Pale. The sessions run every Tuesday upstairs in Doyle’s of College Green and proceeds from the E4 cover charge go to the Simon Community. After The Party are a new three-piece band featuring David Hand on guitars and vox, Niall Reynolds on bass and Jonathon Kelly on drums. They’ve just completed a two track demo boasting compositions entitled ‘Clear Blue’ and ‘Media Royale’ and have a website up and running at www.aftertheparty.net.
Dublin guitar pop band The Thrills have been seducing all sorts of record company personnel of late. Also keep an eye and ear peeled for The Voyeurs who have built up a large live following very quickly. Recent Homefront star Goodtime John will be touring the country with The American Analog Set in the coming weeks. MidNorth FourZero is a non-profit based group that aims to expose independent and/or small labels, bands and artists to a wider audience. They have already successfully run a “music from the heartlands” night featuring musicians with a midlands background such as Mullingar outfit Innate who have a large following locally.
