The Connect 4 Orchestra go long, the Prayer Boat's are finally answered and the Shelter provides storming nights out
The fantastic Connect 4 Orchestra, who used to be Palomine back in the day, have adopted the dual working name C40. They popped the corks last week for their first ever full release, following the initial promise of ‘Multipot’ on
Steve Fanagan’s Mango Music compilation and sharing a 7” with Jimmy Behan for a Road Relish double-pack outing. A double A side, Beta V3.6/Chinese Action Hero’ is available now on Greyslate Records, also responsible for the equally gifted instrumental
mentalists The Redneck Manifesto (TRM).
Helter Shelter in the (ahem) Shelter on Friday nights has been kicking off nicely with a “no techno, no house, no distractions” music policy but lots of noise, and some great tunes. Judith Ring has had her music featured at EXPO 2000 and now the Dubliner turns her hand from composing to performing at some recent Whispering Gallery events – displaying a highly compelling use of acoustic, electronic and environmental sounds.

Emmet Tinley, best known as frontman with Wicklow ensemble The Prayer Boat has just signed a publishing deal with Cool Puppy, who also boast Dido on their client list. Emmet has also signed just a deal with Atlantic Records. Terence O’Mahony, who moved from West Cork to London, has given the acoustic clubs a break for the moment to concentrate on Phonograph who have been signed up by Alan McGee’s Poptones label.
Adventures Of A Tragic Man is the first release from Dublin outfit EN – a trio that comprises of Mark Murphy and Adam Barry who came together after spending a summer working a record shop. Alex Donald became a regular customer and duly got involved. The song was originally released on the Synergia compilation during the summer of 2000 before being signed and sealed for the new Dublin label Underdog Records. Spectrum is Green, Similau, 8 bit antique, Skunk & DVUS and Schroeders Cat have all chipped in a remix to cater for all perversions.
