The 80's musician garnered a close-knit fanbase before passing at 27 due to complications after a car crash.
Heart Eyes, a horror romantic-comedy coming to cinemas this Friday, is set to feature the Irish love song ‘Are You In Love?’
Written and performed by Dermot "Spyder" Sympson, the 80’s track touches on themes of uncertainty and heartache.
The song begins when the two main characters Ally and Jay, played by Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, sit uncomfortably together in a cab. Sympson was a rising pop star during his prime, though suffered from a car crash on the way back from a gig in 1987. He never fully recovered from his injuries, passing away in 1992 at 27 years old.
Sympson was born in Athlone, Co. Westmeath, and grew up in Drogheda. He joined his first band The Twilights with his bother, sister and two local musicians, where he first began writing songs. After The Twilights split up, Sympson played drums with several other bands before joining The Apaches as lead vocalist.
The artist began focusing on his solo career. He appeared on the Late Late Show in 1986, performing 'Still In Love With You.' Earning acclaim throughout Europe, Sympson finished fifth in the Irish Eurovision finals of 1987 with 'All My Life.'
