Watch her 30-minute Bridge 909 Studio session, recorded in Kansas City.
Another ’90s revival is long, long overdue and – phew! – here comes 19-year-old Pavement fanatic Bea Kristi, and just in time too. She was born in the Philippines and raised in London and her music brims with references to Belly, Throwing Muses, Lush and, of course, Stephen Malkmus and his pals. She has an origin story, too: her dad bought Kristi her first guitar way back in the mists of time (er, 2017) and she wrote her first song, ‘Coffee’, soon afterwards. Having posted it to Soundcloud, she came to the attention of Dirty Hit (The 1975, Wolf Alice, The Pale Wave etc) and now here she is, on the Hot Press “Hot For…” countdown.
Hear: Latest single ‘She Plays Bass’ is Kristi’s catchiest yet.
