A preview of the films to watch out for in 2015
2015 is shaping up to be a great year at the movies. We'll be taking an in-depth look at some of this year's biggest films in our next issue, but check out daily installments of "Hot Films 2015" right here on HotPress.com to whet your cinematic appetite.
Blockbuster
Jurassic World - The fourth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise is definitely something to be excited for. Set twenty-two years after the events of the first film, which was released in 1993, (see what they did there?) this latest film features the dinosaur amusement park concept fully realized, open, safe and sound. That is, until the park's scientists create a genetically altered hybrid dinosaur to draw more customers in. Hell proceeds to break loose. Starring Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreation) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Spider Man 3), Jurassic World opens up June 12.
Drama
True Story - A dramatic tonal shift from much of the work of its two lead actors, True Story features funny guys Jonah Hill and James Franco in what looks to be a heavy and humorless affair. True Story is, you guessed it, a true story based on the memoir of former New York Times writer Mike Finkel (Hill), who was contacted by accused murderer Christian Longo (Franco) to hopefully tell the unknown truth behind his alleged crime. The film will premier at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23 before a limited release in April.
Comedy
Kingsman: The Secret Service - This upcoming action comedy features Colin Firth as a deadly spy of devastatingly good manner, Samuel L. Jackson as a maniacal villain with a lisp, and a woman with swords for legs. If you aren't already sold, we aren't sure what will do it. From X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn, this over-the-top graphic novel adaptation looks in the vein of that latter gem and also features newcomer Taron Egerton and Michael Caine. Look for it on January 29.
Documentary
Racing Extinction - Another upcoming Sundance premiere, Racing Extinction is the second documentary feature from Director Louie Psihoyos, who won an Academy Award for his first film The Cove. His latest project features a group of scientists (and a race car driver?) developing a plan to draw attention to the plight of endangered species and rescue them from a forecast mass extinction within the next 100 years. Release information outside of Sundance is unknown as of now, but if this call to action garners the kind of traction and acclaim that The Cove did, we can all expect to see it very soon.
