Having impressed earlier in the year with the darkly malevolent ‘Boomerang’, the Dublin feminist alt-rockers bagged themselves their first Hot Press A&R Dept. Single of the Month in December 2023 with ‘HMPB’, which stands for ‘Heavy Metal Punk Band’ and documents singer Rebecca Walsh’s youthful disdain for “lads who thought taking inspiration from Megadeth and the Sex Pistols was ground-breaking.” With Wet Leg, Bikini Kill, Pavement and Taylor Swift among the reference points, the quartet are as musically muscular as they are arch and tuneful.
