Southport band Gomez return to the Olympia tonight in a sold out show to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal debut album 'Bring it On'.
'Bring it On' received mass critical acclaim, going platinum and winning a Mercury Music Prize, NME awards and a nomination for a Brit award. Fans came from far and wide, with American blues legend John Lee Hooker describing the record saying, "I done listen to this record over and over and I can't find no defect." High praise indeed.
Gomez is comprised of Ian Ball on vocals and guitar, Tom Gray on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Ben Ottewell on vocals and guitar, Paul "Blackie" Blackburn on bass and Olly Peacock on drums and synth. Since 'Bring it On', the five have released six albums, 'Liquid Skin' in 1999, 'In Our Gun' in 2002, 'Split the Difference' in 2004, 'How we Operate' in 2006, 'A New Tide' in 2009 and 'Whatever's on your Mind' in 2011. Although the lads have been less prolific in usual years, they still hold significant clout among fans and tonight's show is totally sold out.
