The single is from the Irish band's new album The Art of Pretending to Swim
Our favourite group of jackals, Villagers, are back with new song 'A Trick of the Light' to remind listeners how much they missed them.
The song is a lovely mid-tempo ditty where the dark sound with which Villagers made there name is in the conflict with the light of the title.
Frontman Conor O'Brien, with that trademark soft, brittle voice, argues there is good in the world. He sings signs in the sky aren't just tricks in the light, crooning: "there's an ocean in my body / and there's a river in my soul".
However, the downbeat denouement to the song implies he has doubts.
