Today's news makes Hozier the fourth Irish artist in history to have a No. 1 in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Wicklow artist Hozier has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart as 'Too Sweet' ascends to No. 1, from No. 2, on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart last week.
The single debuted three weeks ago at No. 5.
This milestone marks the Irish singer-songwriter's first ever Hot 100 leader.
His previous record was a No. 2 placement with his breakthrough sleeper hit 'Take Me to Church' in 2014-2015. The single spent 23 weeks in the US charts.
Today's news follows just two weeks after Andrew Hozier Byrne achieved the No. 1 spot for the first time in both the UK and the Irish charts.

'Too Sweet' is lifted from Hozier's Unheard EP which is made up of four tracks recorded during the sessions for Hozier's latest album, Unreal Unearth.
The song did not make the artists' album Unreal Unearth. "These are songs that might’ve made it to the circles of gluttony, limbo, violence and the outward ‘ascent’ respectively but could not for different reasons," Hozier announced at the time. "I’m very glad I’ll get to share them with you.”
The single has also achieved No. 1 status in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Sharing the news on social media the artist said:"I've been both thrilled and taken massively by surprise by such a staggering reaction".

Concluding, he said: "It means the world that you're enjoying this song so much. Thank you all so much."

Today's news sees Hozier joining Irish music royalty Sinéad O’Connor, U2 and Gilbert O’Sullivan - the three other Irish artists who have reached the pinnacle of the US song charts.
O’Connor spent four weeks at the top of the charts with 'Nothing Compares 2 U' in April 1990.
U2 scored two No 1s in 1987 with 'I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For' and 'With or Without You'.
O’Sullivan topped the charts with 'Alone Again (Naturally)' in July 1972.
