Seven slices of real, authentic country recorded in Nashville, from Gram Parsons’ sombre instrumental ‘Juanita’ to John Prine’s wry ‘Late John Garfield Blues’. The pace of the first six tracks is relentlessly slow and the singing is very laid-back, but patient listeners will be rewarded with an intoxicating almost-Hendrixy 11-minute cover of the great Kris Kristofferson’s ‘Border Lord’. If it ain’t got that twang, it don’t mean a thang.
