Cyndi’s earlier stuff occasionally veered towards mindless bubblegum, but some of her ballads were incredible. Shame, then, to hear her becoming decreasingly soulful and more commercial with each release. ‘I’m Gonna Be Strong’ is a flaccid love song which could easily have been written by Foreigner.
