Take a look at the full list of artists honoured at this year's Ivor Novello award ceremony, which took place earlier this afternoon.
IDLES and The 1975 were among seven artists recognised at the Ivor Novello 2019 ceremony earlier today.
The Ivor Novello Awards celebrate excellence in songwriting and composing, and are some of the most highly respected in the business as they are chosen by industry peers. Each award represents peer recognition and all award categories are exclusively judged by music creators.
The annual ceremony took place at London’s Grosvenor House this afternoon.
IDLES took home the award for Best Album for Joy As An Act Of Resistance, while The 1975 received the award for Songwriters Of The Year.
Speaking on The 1975's win, the Academy said: “All at once daring, vulnerable and recklessly honest, The 1975’s songwriting on ‘A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships’ stands out as a vivid picture of modernity. These songs are a quintessential snapshot of the emotional complexities of life in the here and now, but with all the hallmarks of a body of work that will stand the test of time.”

In addition to the awards handed out in the traditional categories such as Best Album and Best Contemporary Song, the Academy extended a number of special prizes to artists in various other categories. In one instance, Mariah Carey, who played her first show in Ireland last night, was awarded the PRS For Music Special International Award in recognition of her highly prolific career, as “one of the biggest selling artists of all time.”
“I rarely get acknowledged for my songwriting, which is the core of who I am," said Carey in her acceptance speech. "So I thank you so much for this incredible, incredible honour.”
