IDLES share video for 'Grounds' and confirm release date for LP3 Ultra Mono
“I’ll say what I mean, do what I love and f--king send it."
Indie-rock band IDLES have announced the release date for their highly-anticipated third studio album this year, confirming that Ultra Mono will arrive on September 25.
To mark the news, IDLES have released a video for their new single, 'Grounds', directed by Rob French.
"We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief – a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in," frontman Joe Talbot says.
“We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you.”
Ultra Mono was recorded in Paris and produced by Nick Launay and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan, while Kenny Beats was hired for additional programming.
The album has apparently been constructed to “capture the feeling of a hip-hop record,” and will feature 12 tracks, including IDLES' latest single Mr. Motivator - a song of pent-up aggression.
Ultra Mono will also feature guest vocals from Jehnny Beth, and contributions from Warren Ellis, David Yow, and Jamie Cullum.
The Bristol band's 2017 debut album Brutalism held a sense of chaotic urgency, but their newest track shows off another side to IDLES.
Idles have also revealed that they’re scheduled to host three live studio performances before the launch on Ultra Mono on August 29 and 30.
The mini gigs will be professionally recorded, filmed and streamed live to anyone who buys a ticket from the band’s website.
